GEB joins the VibrioNet Consortium as an international partner institute
The Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology department became one of the international partner institutes of VibrioNet, a consortium (http://www.vibrionet.de/en/index.html) organized to collect information on prevalence of human pathogenic Vibrio spp. in bivalve molluscas from natural and retail sources and in seasonal cases of human gastroenteritis and wound infections in Germany. The consortium will focus on various aspects like epidemiology, aetiology, pathogenesis and diagnostics of Vibrio infections. The meeting of the VibrioNet-Project was held at FU Berlin, Germany, from 4 to 5 May 2011. Over 30 VibrioNet members and guest attended the meeting. Dr Shah M Faruque, Senior Scientist,Head, Molecular Genetics Laboratory,International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) joined the meeting as a representative of Bangladesh. Dr Shah M Faruque is also a part-time faculty of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Dhaka.
